Someone posted this in the "uber linux games" thread... anyone playing? It doesn't seem to be working right with Ubuntu/Firefox. It's not rendering all of the text correctly... but I can play it in Windows/Firefox just fine.

In Windows, my Flash plugin version is 7.0 r19.
In Ubuntu, my Flash plugin version is 7.0 r25.

Could this be the problem? Has anyone else experienced this?

This problem still exists and also effects Dragon Fable. :-(

I think it's the ubuntu's flash player that is causing the problem, as the problem exists in every browser in ubuntu, but none in windows, but i'm not sure if it's because it uses different size fonts or a different textbox size. Anyways it feels really stupid to be constantly jumping between windows and linux just for a couple of flash games .

The problem is also in fedora, so it's probably a problem with linux's flash in general. However, i've just gotten my hands on a Mac and the problem simply doesn't exist there, even though OS X is unix based and thereby it must be possible to get it working on ubuntu, i have no idea how though.

I will run some tests when i have the time.

I know this thread has been stagnant for a while, but I thought I'd bump it.

It seems like all of the Artix Entertainment games (Adventure Quest, Dragon Fable, Mechquest), as well as many other flash based games that were heavy on text, had the text problem. With the upgrade to 8.10, it seems like this has been cleared up.

BUT... there seems to be a problem with their new game, Adventure Quest Worlds. It's a flash based MMORPG. It allows you to log in and choose which server you want to play on, but then it just sits there at "Connecting to game server..."

I've been trying to work with the support group at AE, but they are at a loss for why a game that worked in 8.04 with Firefox 3 would not work in 8.10. I've tried to un-install and re-install flash, but to no avail. Unfortunately, Gnash will not load the game at all.

Can anyone else think of a reason? I've read similar reports with Runescape, but that game is mostly java based, while AQW is flash based, so I'm pretty sure the fixes for it would not apply.

I have the same problem with Ubuntu 8.10, Adventure Quest Worlds worked fine with 8.04, and after upgrading, no dice!

I had the same problem with Intrepid. I fixed it by un-installing Gnash and using the Adobe flash plugin from the repositories. It works fine now.

Just wanted to say thanks for this! Not being able to play Flash games was the last thing really holding me back from switching fully to Linux, and after I removed the Gnash and libswf files from Synaptic, the flashplugin-installer for Adobe worked perfectly and while the quality isn't 100% the same, I can log in and play just fine, and that's what matters.

Here's to a Linux system in my near future. Yay!

Why are you all still playing BattleOn games?
