View Full Version : Background Ideas...

I know that Ubuntu has tons of designers for backgrounds and things like that. But I was thinking about how Microsoft used real photographers to get backgrounds for Windows Vista. So I thought maybe Ubuntu would be thinking about throwing on some real photography for backgrounds for the next update.
So I thought I would throw the idea out here. I am an amateur photographer, but I think that some of my stuff makes quite good backgrounds.
These are just a couple of my photos, but they're my favorites: http://mitch41.deviantart.com
I hope you guys at least look at this, I will be uploading a lot more photos soon.
Thanks!

Mitch.

Mitch, neat idea, but don't you think it would be a bit distracting?

What do you mean by distracting?
All operating systems have backgrounds/wallpapers... Ubuntu has very simple ones... Vista has some very cool computer graphic-ish ones, and also some very nice photography.
If the community could throw together some of their own photography for wallpapers/backgrounds for Ubuntu I think it would be quite nice.
I'm willing to put any photography I do into Ubuntu, and I will even try to do more just for it :)

Your work looks good.

I think that's a good idea to include pictures, but if we do that, then we will need to include a few of what is available on the internet.

This means opening submission of different artists works during some time (five weeks or more), and selecting the best works in all of that by proposing users (mostly visitors) to vote for the pictures.

And to do that, the pictures should be submitted with some CC-like license that permits redistribution and derivative works (and maybe more permissions.. I don't really know what's needed for inclusion in the distribution)

Any thought on that ?

Thanks :)
I think that sounds great!
I don't really know much about the different licenses, but I am sure that someone here would know what to do.
I think that this is a good way to make Ubuntu more friendly.
There are tons of ways to make an operating system more appealing to Windows/OS X users...
Appearance
Features
Cost
Community
Tech Support
Availability...
etc.

Correct me if I'm wrong but i think if Ubuntu has some 'real' photos (I tend to believe that although they're nice, the ones in Windows Vista look fake), than it will improve the overall appeal of Ubuntu :)
