hi,
im new to linux and was trying out ubuntu to see what all the hype was about. ii was trying to install ubuntu32 on mac through parallels but after i see the ubuntu logo, the screen goes blank and prints this message:
[0.0000000]ACPT: unable to locate RSDP
please wait
the parallel screen goes completely black. i wait for about five minutes and nothing is happening. am i not waiting long enough? or because of the error message, is there a problem with what i am doing? any help would be appreciated. thanks

I have heard many times that Ubuntu support is much better under VMWare Fusion beta 3, FWIW. It's available freely from the website, provided you sign up for a key. In the meantime, if you insist on using Parallels, I've heard that choosing the Solaris option when setting it up gives the best results for Ubuntu.

i actually did try vmware with fedora red hat and windows. i recently switched to parallels w/ windows and like it better. when i selected the solaris option, i got three os version options:
solaris 9
solaris 10
other solaris
does it matter which one i should select? thanks for the help.

Hopefully this link (http://www.simplehelp.net/2007/04/27/how-to-install-ubuntu-feisty-fawn-in-os-x-using-parallels-a-complete-walkthrough/) will be of use to you. It looks like the answer to your present question is "other Solaris," but maybe the guide answers other things, too. Good luck!
