According to the configuration information on the dell website the integrated nic on the E520n is supposed to be a 10/100/1000 card. The network card I received appears to only support 10/100. Is there some setting I am missing to enable the gigabit mode or did I get the wrong part? Everything on my network is gigabit.

Same problem here. Order form said 10/100/1000 but packing slip (and internal system configuration) said 10/100.
I'm going to call Dell when I get a chance.

I just spent a long while talking with tech support, after being referred by customer care. After the rep telling me that I did have the gigabit card, he finally realized that I didn't. He showed me an internal spec for the E520 and that it has the 10/100 card. He then proceeded to tell me that I needed the right driver to make my 10/100 card work as a gigabit card. Eventually I got to talk to a manager. He said that the configuration page is mistaken and that the machine comes with a 10/100 card so that's what I paid for and I should be ok with that. I was not too happy with that but he wasn't willing to do anything about it. It is up to their discretion to change the specifics of your order.
So apparently we ordered a machine with 10/100/1000 but received a machine with 10/100 and dell says we're supposed to live with that. I'm not too happy :(

Seems to me to be false advertising or an error. Likely they should refund some of your money, like maybe $20.00, or whatever the difference between 10/100 and 10/100/1000 boards are.

06/06/2007 05:04:48PM Jason Jordan: "updated how, the customers machine receiving what he ordered or the web page changed to only show 10/100?"
06/06/2007 05:08:37PM Agent (Sup_Manav_0): "This system supports upto 100 Mbps only and we will get the website updated to show the same information."
06/06/2007 05:09:06PM Jason Jordan: "so, what about the fact that I configured the system with gigabit capability and I do not have that?"
06/06/2007 05:09:46PM Agent (Sup_Manav_0): "Jason, you have been charged for the network card which is for 100Mbps and not 1000 Mbps."
06/06/2007 05:10:15PM Jason Jordan: "but I ordered gigabit. I have a gigabit network."
06/06/2007 05:11:39PM Jason Jordan: "I wouldn't have ordered a pc without gigabit support"
06/06/2007 05:12:34PM Agent (Sup_Manav_0): "Jason, you can check the invoice regarding the specification of the card shipped to you however there is an option of purchasing a card which supports gigabit network."
06/06/2007 05:13:20PM Jason Jordan: "what about the specification of what I ordered, obviously I haven't received what I ordered. It was not a mistake on my part."
06/06/2007 05:13:48PM Agent (Sup_Manav_0): "I can understand your concern and apologize for the inconvenience."

06/06/2007 05:15:07PM Jason Jordan: "customer care directed me to tech support with this issue"
06/06/2007 05:16:25PM Jason Jordan: "it's not a smart way to do business to make mistakes and have the customer have to live with it"
06/06/2007 05:16:47PM Agent (Sup_Manav_0): "Jason, what you have received is a part of standard specification for the system and it cannot be altered."
...
06/06/2007 05:21:11PM Agent (Sup_Manav_0): "I can understand your concern however i would like you to check on the page http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=us&cs=19&kc=6V440&l=en&oc=DDCWAV3&s=dhs that it says that final order specifications would be communicated through the the in"

06/06/2007 05:22:01PM Jason Jordan: "So they coulda put a pentium 2 100Mhz in there and it would apparently have been fine, do I understand you correctly?"
06/06/2007 05:22:34PM Agent (Sup_Manav_0): "Jason, this kind of error cannot happen."
06/06/2007 05:23:03PM Agent (Sup_Manav_0): "The product which has been shipped to you is of standard specification."
06/06/2007 05:23:29PM Jason Jordan: "how do I know that before I buy it?"
06/06/2007 05:24:33PM Jason Jordan: "you see, I configured and paid for a system. and I received a system not matching that. now I'm being told that it's my fault that dell mistaked their specification and I should accept that."
06/06/2007 05:24:44PM Agent (Sup_Manav_0): "The information displayed on the website is correct one and it can only be in rare circumstances that this kind of error can happen."
06/06/2007 05:25:13PM Jason Jordan: "so it would make sense in these RARE circumstance to error on the side of the customer and make it right, no?"
06/06/2007 05:25:21PM Agent (Sup_Manav_0): "Jason, we have only charged you for the product that you have received."
06/06/2007 05:25:42PM Jason Jordan: "but I did not order the computer I received"
