Morning all... :)

Well, here is a post I have been thinking about somewhat in the last couple days. Sorry if it grows long as I have a tendency to ramble...

How can I give back to the Ubuntu community? I know that there are many on here that believes this is the right thing to do, as do I. I am sure you are all contributing, writing code and compiling things. I have been in the computer industry for many years but always in IT. My programming experience is solely involving batch files and the old BASIC versions out there back in CP/M and throughout the MSDOS range (QuickBASIC). I doubt you you get me to learn a programming language now, especally since I am a full time worker and part time student. I do have a life not in front of the flat panel.

So, I know I must have some talent that could fill in somewhere. Is there anybody out there with any advice on how to give back that doesn't involve coding?

Thanks all...

My way of giving back (although I am learning a language in order to help on a project) is to help answer questions in the forums.

Share what you've learned. Help the new folks transition over. I just joined the 64 bit bandwagon a couple days but most questions on the boards aren't version specific.

I totally agree -- give 30 minutes a day to helping folks adopt Linux. What Linux needs, more than anything else, is user headcount, and if you can help add to that it's a valuable contribution. :D

Another way is bug triaging:

Most open source projects need triagers.

Thanks everybody. I can already tell that Ubuntu is the right direction to be headed. I am also glad I stayed the course on the 64 bit version (versus 32 bit). My computer experience has changed in just a few short days and I am hoping to become a USEFUL part of the Ubuntu community.

Have a great evening...

Submitting bugs is extremely helpful. It doesn't involve knowing programming, or anything. It's one of the best ways to get a problem to the attention of a developer team.

Bugs sound like a great place for me to be. Of course, after all of your responses I actually looked at the Ubuntu wiki site (thanks Kilz!) and found this website...

Also very handy. :)
