Dell Precision 380 - Sigmatel STAC9200 Microphone Problem

Hello,

I've got a problem to have my microphone on a Dell Precision 380 working. The sound chip is a Sigmatel STAC9200 (Intel HDA).
I've looked on the alsamixer and nothing is mute. The sound out works perfectly and only the microphone doesn't want to work.

I didn't look on the kernel but I think it doesn't come from there, because the driver is correctly installed.

I hope someone can help me.

What software are you using to get the sound from the microphone?

I've got this problem too. I've tested with jack, connecting the inputs to the outputs in duplex mode, connecting the inputs to meterbridge in capture mode, and with audacity using alsa. I updated alsa from the instructions given here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HdaIntelSoundHowto

but to no avail.

i figured out my problem: the mic was muted. i had to go into alsamixer, press F4 and make sure each channel was unmuted (in my case says CAPTUR under the bar in red font). i don't know if the driver update was necessary

I am still having a problem with my mic. I made sure it is not muted. Yet I cannot capture any.

concerning the mic/audio problem mentioned a couple of times in this thread:
I have Dell Inspiron 6400 nseries and Ubuntu 7.04 and solved the mic/audio problem using
http://linux.dell.com/wiki/index.php/Ubuntu_7.04/Issues/Audio_recording_does_not_work
even though it applies more to the Desktop Dimension 530n.
I did and was able finally to make a successful test call using Skype.
