This technology is really cool! You can access a gnome desktop using java or nx!

This one uses KDE instead

i think i prefer my data and such where i know it is safe, and that is on my own pc, or flash drive. what happens if these companies suddenly start to charge exorbitant rates for a user to access their own data? or if the company folds? or their servers are compromised?

I guess it would be useful if you were traveling and wanted to use some familiar linux apps rather than the default windows ones. You are right, I wouldn't put anything personal on my accounts. Still a cool technology, though.

Here are my comments about the services:
-Both of them don't allow me to use the terminal
-Cosmopod allows me to run only the applications on the panel. Desktop on Demand allows me to run anything in the menu and in /usr/bin except xterm and GNOME Terminal
-Desktop on Demand allows me to customize GNOME. Cosmopod locks down KDE so I can't change the wallpaper or the theme.
-Desktop on Demand runs Fedora Core 6 because it includes the DNA wallpaper. Cosmopod runs Fedora Core 4 because it says "fc4" in the KDE version in the About KDE window.

They blocked the terminals and the ability to install applications so that people would not use the connection to attack other computers or do anything else illegal.
