Do you have any proof? Lemme see some usage data. I personally use Linux (Duh!) and right now you couldn't give me windows vista for free. I have been running linux for a little over 6 months with no crashes. I have had 3 windows crashes in that time. So, windows crashes too easily:p

Well I cant speak for all of us geeks as you call us but for myself I am not a geek. I just like the computer and like to learn new things. I have used windows for the past 10 or better years and now I only use ubuntu. I am continuing to do new things with new OS and learning a lot from this community. ok then listen when i ran windoes on my laptop it was so slow to start so i started it then i went down to get some coffe and when icame back my laptop still havent started it wass so anoying... then i was downloading some freewaregame and i saw a download for Linux and i found out that linux actually was free and when i had it instaled it worked and my computer started in 5 seconds and it has never crashed wich my windows install also acomplished about 10 times in a week or in short :

Linux has a lot of catching up to do.

I have no intention of being trapped by MS ... so i'm gonna switch to Linux (Kubuntu).

However .. they certainly dont make it easy. Ubuntu is certainly not for human beings. You need to seriously study the psychic interface before you consider using Linux for more than a frivolous trial. The gui is there for some casual stuff .. but when things go serious, your nose is forced into the psychic interface.

I *hope* that effort is being put into creating system maintenance via gui .. blaming the user for not studying the esoteric details of linux because they should expect to be occasionally presented with a broken system (by system updates) wont cut it.

At present, for teh average user, (Ubuntu) is a demo system.

The average user can use Windows, the average user cant use Linux.

Ubuntu got me in, right now I'm using PClinuxOS as my main OS, but that's the biggest beauty of linux... as you spoke about free speech, this is free choice. Perhaps I would go back to ubuntu when gutsy is released, and some issues are solved.

I mean... if you want to install some program from ubuntu repos you just go to apps-install... check the program... hit install... enjoy... PCLOS... Synaptic... choose, enjoy... a bit less intuitive this one, but still easy...

What I mean... I've never had the need to compile anything... and if it wasn't in the repos, I can almost always find a .deb ( or RPM ) for it...

And well, talking about simplicity, then we all wonder why OSX is hardly up in market share than linux...

Sadly, I must disagree as for me Linux is way more simply than windows in many ways, and more difficult in others... It's a price you need to pay as in everything in life...

Well yes I have.I tried Egy Eft when it was the new thing.When I had Egy Eft all I wanted was a way to downlosd music and i chose frost wire no prob because I new it needed Java 1.5 or later.So it was suposed to be as easy as sudo apt install java something don't remeber and it never finished the install broke the synaptic packager reinstalled ubuntu and tried this like three times.Well then I said lets use emule it would never connecte to the P2P network tried Azorus or whatever it is called some other problems and Ubuntu asks you for a password like 20 times a day lord have mercey if you try to run things as root you get every warning it can throw at you.Just face it linux is not ready to be a main stream desktop system.The one thing that I loved on Linux was Linux Bash love the system but most people never touch the terminal in Windows so what makes you think they want to use it in linux.

I no one thing you shure are defensive about Suckubuntu.

nope nope, bad girl. Most people here is willing to help (including me) if you have any trouble, so we can make you feel comfortable. But if you just keep ranting, there's not so much we can do for you. As you can see, not everyone here uses ubuntu (most), I personally prefer PCLOS at the moment, but we are, basically, a linux community. Yes, I know there's people... but most of us are in the best disposition to help. However, as I don't like Win, for personal preferences, I won't criticize as I know there's a bunch of work behind it. Ubuntu developers also, work very hard to give an excellent product for the community, so I don't think it's fair to come here and tell it's a bunch of crap.
