I have heard somewhere that a USB drive will only boot in the computer that it was installed in. Is this true? That may explain why my USB drive does not boot in other computers, or it could be that the other computers do not support it in the BIOS.

what distro are you talking about? i've got puppy linux on a usb flash that will boot on any computer that supports usb as a boot option, sometimes you have to tinker with the bios, enable usb, usb legacy support, as some will regard usb flash as zip, or other device.
generally, the older the computer is, the less likely you are to get it to boot from usb. in puppy, you can create a floppy which will load and direct the pc to look to the usb for a boot loader. i'm sure there will be other distros that you can do the same,
hope this helps

Maybe I just need to fool around with the BIOS more, or try other USB ports. Thanks!
