Many people complain that Sony Vaio laptops are loud because of the fan. Fan is running almost all the time, which can be very annoying. This bothered me for awhile, so I decided to do something about it. I wrote a simple program that can control Sony Vaio fan through SonyPI kernel driver that is installed in Ubuntu as default.

This program allows you to determine the maximum temperature. When temperature reaches this definied maximum the fan starts to run. It runs until the temperature is drop down to the level that user wants.

WARNING !
This program might harm your system and damage your hardware! Use with caution. I don't take any responsibility what so ever. Use with your own risk!

You can download this program from here (http://www.taimila.com/fansilencer.php). Enjoy!

Good work but I would prefer my fan louder as i am running 3.06 ghz atleast I feel my laptop is working rather than risking it not to run at all. I wont risk it all though. keep up with good work.

as long as you are setting the default temp to a safe degree, this is a great idea.

integrating this with cpu frequencing would also be interesting to see..........good work.

every one talks about setting a "safe" temperature, but no one ever seems to say what the temperature is. Am I supposed to just know? I'm not asking anyone to take responsibility for any damage I might do to my machine, but can anyone please just tell me what temperature they used? I have a Sony Vaio PCG K-33 that sounds like a Cessna.
