Here's a question...I work at the Kristiansand Kanon Museum (www.kanonmuseet.no) and would like to use Ubuntu to do a couple of tasks:

1. I want to set up a machine in the lobby of the museum to serve up sound guiding mp3 files. That way visitors could download their native language guided tour directly on to their own mp3 players.

2. I want to use the same machine as a digital guest book. Visitors could fill out a form with email, address, etc... to get on our mailing list for upcoming events.

I am not a complete newbie with Ubuntu. I've used it in several iterations in three machines for a couple of years. However, those machines are just simple home use installations. I need some advice to set up the more complicated machine I described above.

Thanks in advance for any, and all, helpful ideas.

I think this would be easier to do with a web-based system. for the MP3 files, just have a web page with pictures of flags of the country, which are links to language-specific webpages with links to the MP3 file. As for the guestbook, that bit's self-explanatory.
The next step would be to lock down Firefox -
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1659 > R-kiosk
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/616 > Auto Reset Browser

Hope this helps.

Great! That's sort of what I thought. I did not know about those Firefox extensions. Thanks.

You might want to look into Sabayon and the other desktop lockdowns like Pessulus or Kiosktool too.
