Help with Inspiron 2500

Hi

I am using ubutu 7.04 on a dell inspiron 2500. The reason I am writing this post is because I have a few problems with ubuntu on this laptop. When I start the computer up & it gets past the GRUB screen I see nothing on the screen. After it checks the floppy drive it shows a whole bunch of different colored lines and it makes a login sound. I figured out that if I hit FN F7 it displays the ubuntu login screen where I can then type in my username & password, Then after that everything works fine.

The problem I want to be fixed is I see no splash after I see the GRUB Boot Loader. Has anyone ever had this type of issue on a laptop before

You could try adding an option to that line that specifies the color depth and resolution of the bootsplash screen by editing your menu.lst: sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.20-16-generic root=UUID=e0e37017-1b07-48b9-a965-7d01c5bb50f1 ro quiet splash vga=791

Or you could try disabling the bootsplash by removing "splash" from the following line: kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.20-16-generic root=UUID=e0e37017-1b07-48b9-a965-7d01c5bb50f1 ro quiet splash
