I am really confused with the gstreamer license....:(

http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/data/doc/gstreamer/head/faq/html/chapter-legal.html

If I download the codec's as an end-user with no intention of redistributing...Is that okay under the license if I live in the U.S.?

P.S. I will be using these codecs under totem and rhythmbox

Which particular GStreamer do you want? Under the GPL, all are free (beer and use is the typical analogy), but the 'ugly' package has some software that is legally debatable under the DMCA (obviously for the protection of large companies with too much money in the first place...). I am pretty sure if you own a copy of any NT-based Windows and an uninstalled dvd player/codec, it should be fine to install any codec on Linux (as long as you don't copy media for sale, torrents, etc...).

As far as the redistributable thing, you can do whatever you want to the software as long as a copy of the GPL is included when you give it to someone else (that is my interpretation).
