Got a good story, think it would make a great game. Post it here to get it out there and get people opinions and maybe some developer interest.

good idea, fighting games on linux are a hard thing to find, i think you may have misenterpreted the object behind this specific thread though. You have described a game, characters but no plot or story, this part of the overall "What is missing in the Linux Gaming World" is primaraly focussed at sharing and discussing storeys which may be used in games. The description must give you various aspects of the game, rules of creating a good storey still apply the old who, where, what, when, why, how . You might need to give a bit more information to help people understand what you want to create but in this thread could you primaraly focused on story.
This is a short story I wrote sometime ago I am adding as an example, although this particular story might not be suitable for a game format it should give you an idea of how to modify a story to better suit the game format. So here it is :
A mercy mist of a scale indeterminable swept over the battalion,
The heat and excitement of it created a sweat which was quickly swept from our skin,
I heard a deep shudder next to me.
"GET DOWN!!!"
I saw a sight which seemed so beautiful at the time. Time seemed to lapse as the events occurred . A fiery explosion blasted me back onto the silky ground. I got up.. A sharp sting rung repetitively in my ears. I could hear only the muffled bloodshed and hatred around me. My excitement soon transformed to fear. A sudden moment of clarity overcame me.
I arose looking at blood on a rock. Blackout I thought to myself?
I looked upwards towards the sky where I could barely make out the stars through the ripping waves of the sand upon the air. Stretching across the edge of the trench I saw a hand. The sand seemed to be piercing through the skin, soaking up the blood into a grainy substance. I placed my hand into my left pocket to retrieve a cigarette , well deserved moment in the hell which was unfolding around me. As I inhaled the ringing began to become unnoticeable. The war began to become unnoticeable.
I covered my head when the blast occurred, opened my eyes and saw the hand staring back at me. Exhaled a cloud of smoke and stared back in shock. The hand was now severed from its body and withered on the ground. I finished my cigarette, stamped my foot on it and proceeded to crawl through the trenches. I saw a dark figure running towards me "wait....wait.." I said cautiously to myself. I saw a gun so I fired.
I stopped yet again to regain my bearings. Took a shot of J.D and opened my eyes once more. They were not closed but the clarity felt like an awakening. I stumbled forward to see the face of the man I had killed only to see a child's face staring back at me. The child was in military uniform with a machine gun in his cold lifeless hands. A tear rolled down my face. The sand storm took it away
I took my pistol and placed it in my mouth, for my country and my government had already killed me.
THE END

lol, i suppose its personal preferance, would be cool to get a more tekken/soul caliber fighting games. Im not saying to clone one here Its just i cant think of the specific genre off the top of my head and im tired do Im too lazy to follow my own advice and look on the wiki to find the specific subtitle of the genre. As for bill gates and steve jobs, that might be a bit too contraversial, I mean whos gonna pick bill when there playing a linux multiplayer game and even more important who is going to balance the gameplay so that bill can win :D :P lol. Ninja Coding Monkeys would be cool characters to choose.....
As for graphics it must be done in 3d, I cant think of one actively developed 3d tekken type fighting game on linux now, not one. Making it cell shaded would be cool, having the ability to turn off and on blood effects would be sweet. Overly dramatic blood effects would be hilarious in a cell shaded cute character fighting game. ust have in debth gameplay with lots of move combinations and the engine must be structured to allow easy developement and addition of moves, think mods but for fighting moves. The bad pont though is that I cant think of any type of story which could be added to such a game.
In a quick change of subject to more suitabley fit into the catagory of this thread (ideas like the one previously posted and discussed further above would fit more suitably in the previous thread.) Over in the passenger forums we (two of us so far) are discussing how to create a storey that will fit with how the game works while still being innovative. So far certain roadbloacks which we are hitting is the fact that players can join the game at any time during gameplay. We are discussing non linear storeytelling and how it could be implemented on that level of gameplay but it seems as though it doesn't work the more I think of it. If the multiplayer aspect was not an issue I would recomend several different types of storey which could be engaging to several different types of gamers one of which is following a linear path in a free roaming city. Bassically about how a group of students and their thesis on robotics and ai. Ignoring the recomendation from their lecturer they decide to give it there all and go against the provisions. Things get sketchy and people start to disapear, You play as the last remaining student. You have eluded the military and they have deleated your file. You are on the run for survival and to try and uncover what is going on. The military want to hamper the developement of ai to make sure they have the most sufisticated ai in ther weapons and security systems. In their eyes you are a ational threat. Stealth would be operative to gameplay, going around and stealing cars and shooting people up will just end your gametime very quick. You have to hide, find answers and stay alive. Finding and revlealing the truth in the end. The gameplay would have other elements such as chases, puzzles, etc. Using the sadows would make you less likely to get seen. Moving at night would be easier than in the day, People can recognize you and ring the cops or try and brutefully reapthe award themselves, people that are unaware you are a crimanel might be asked if they saw you around by investigators in which case it could be 50/50 on wether they rember you. To make things harder you would have three meters, one for physical health, one for hydration and one for hunger. This would force the player to try and find food and water and take risks. You would be aremed with nothing more than a laptop in which you must use in key areas of the storey to advance like finding a clue in our wrecked apartment pointing to a lap someplace, after getting to the lab and finding that ts locked down you would have to take out your laptop and use crack their wep encryption key to find more clues on there fileserver. This game would be more about story, stealth, puzzles and being on the run than stealing cars and killing people. Would be very intersting if you ask me. :D
