Since there are a lot of comments saying "openSUSE is sloooow" or "Ubuntu is slower for me" I though it would be good to give some numbers. I don't have Ubuntu installed to compare the differences in my machine, but absolute values still can give an idea.
In my system, just after KDE has loaded (with Kopete and Konsole), "free" says used memory - buffers/cache is 124492bytes (~122MB).
Boot time, between grub and KDM, is ~35seconds. I attach a bootchart for you to see the details.
Judge for yourself, but I'm pretty happy with these numbers.
