What is the best live cd (most secure and/or most convenient) to do banking with?
I have used Knoppix and Ubuntu FF, both worked fine.
Any thoughts on security and other distro live cds?
An openbsd live cd with Firefox sounds ideal, but that doesn't exist, I think?

Why do you want to use a live cd. A live cd will never be up to date with the latest security patches vs an install that you can update?

You don't leave a trace with a livecd, unless you save something to the harddrive or to an external drive. That could be very appealing if you are using a public PC, or are crazy paranoid.

I don't consider myself to be crazy paranoid :), I just like the peace of mind knowing that 1) IF I am compromised that won't affect my banking. 2) no trace on hdd means means no one can collect info later. 3) I can be a bit more careless than if I did it from my regular install.

Also, if nothing is listening, what r the odds that u get compromised in 15 mins?
even if there r security problems with some apps?

Have Firefox had any remote exploits when just sitting opened? that is, not visiting a "bad" page?

Um firstly if your using a public pc something could be being logged at the router, and I dont think they are exactly going to let you go into the library and use a live cd. (you may not even be able to get an IP

1) you could dual boot and have a banking and non banking partition, or you could have 2 user accounts

2) clear all cache etc

3) See 1

Also, if nothing is listening, what r the odds that u get compromised in 15 mins? I not sure I understand what listening means, but if your on your own private network, Im willing to bet your chances of getting infected are 1 out of at the minimum 10,000, just sitting there with an up to date computer. I expect the odds are actually much more in your favor

even if there r security problems with some apps? Se above, + with an install problems get fixed as they are found vs a live cd you have the same published problems exposed until you get a new cd. Fun fact: Between 25% - 50% of windows viruses that people get could have been avoided purly by keeping your computer up to date.

Have Firefox had any remote exploits when just sitting opened? that is, not visiting a "bad" page? None that I know of, but I'm sure they must have had 1 or 2
