This is the thread for the European Ubuntu Clan

We play free (as in cost) games that run native on Ubuntu (GNU/Linux). As soon as someone is willing to be team leader for a game then [ubu-e] will play that game.

Currently we only play Enemy Territory (ET) and its mod, True Combat: Elite (tc:e). True Combat: Elite is a free tactical shooter which resembles CS and Urban Terror. ET is a WWII-themed, somewhat less tactical shooter based on the quake3 engine.

The only thing that annoyed :? me was in the middle of a game a vote was called to change the map, ok this is not a prob (in it's self) but in the space of one hour (I played for 5) server restart N times, can you not set it up to cycle through the maps after say 1 or 2 match?

We have to wait a couple more months for the final release, but it will kick *** for sure. The entire community is overwhelmed in excitement as it will also attract lots of new players form ET and other games because it's so dam fun to play :wink:

No the people that play on the server have to come to an agreement (using voting) themselves.

I didn't know their website had changed (I check it out sometimes). I used to play urban terror a couple of years ago. I played during the summer in a dutch fun clan.

When will the ET beta release ? I'll definetely check urban terror for ET out. If our high hopes are satisfied [ubu-e]'s second game will be urban terror (znh agrees with me).

Heh gladd you like it, about the voting.. that's being done by other players.
If everyone says 'OK, lets change the map by pressing F1' then the map would change.
A mapcycle is a good idea, but with this the players decide what's on the server.

I've seen other clans do this (such as The Dynasty for CS: [dYn] and -dYnr-) and it seems like a great way to promote the clan and ubuntu while encouraging community and allowing players from the rest of the world to join in on some of the fun even though they can't join the clan.

Maybe the clan could also have a North American branch ([ubuNA-e]).

Does anyone here play legends? I'm looking to start up an Ubuntu legends clan, or if that fails, a general linux legends clan.

If there are enough players, it sounds like it would be worth this being part of ubu-e, although my initial intention was for it to be worldwide. There are a couple of options for the intended clan - if everyone's from europe it makes sense to be a part of ubu-e, but I'd prefer not to exclude a load of Ubuntu users.

I'm (apparently) an honorary member of a Guild Wars Guild, and I've never even seen the game (long and very offtopic story). As soon as they open a ET/TCE branch, I'll officially join. That's why I'm currently not joining Ubu-e. I really like the idea though. Oh yeah. And I'm a really bad player. :)

Welcome onboard FishFace! I'm sorry I don't use jabber but I think it's only a matter off personal preferance what IM client you use, however we do use IRC as our main form of real time communication the, reason being we need a system the every one with ubuntu can use straight out the box.

Sorry for not having read the entire topic, it's quite lengthy. I did some googling but could not find, so here are some possibly stupid/FA-questions.

A Quake clone for linux, sounds great, yay!

In what repository can I find the game? In my sources.list all the ubuntu sources are enabled, but that's it. Synaptic can't find it.

Is 500 Mhz with a not so special vidcard enough?

You need to use istallers that can be found here...

First install et with the paches up to v. 2.60 and then the 'TrueCombat:ELITE Loki Installer' v. 0.48 and then it's gaming time...

I use Ubuntu pure - no Redmond in our house.

I play TC:E about twice a week, and I am OK, but not great - although, I love the game - kicks butt over CS - and Steam can kiss my #$/&x*.

I've never played on a clan, but would like to try.

Do you meet on a certain server at a certain time??

Someone else having problems downloadin the game? The download links just seem to redirect me to either a google search for the file which turns up a useless not working link, or a 404. :-k

it seems this game is offline from all the mirrors. I tried everything I could find, and only turned up 404's and file is missing. Only difference is FileFront who seems to have the file but also has a 1 hour waiting time before download can start, and also they only have version 0.46 and 0.48 is the newest. And no loki installer. *sob*

I guess I just have to wait one hour and see what comes up, but this is not very encouraging... Maybe someone could post a working link?

* because people who live in Europe ive in aproximately same timezone

I like the idea a of Ubuntu promoting clan very much. Do it myself all the time. However this particular restriction is very un-Ubuntu in my humble opinion. Nobody likes a bad ping so that won't be a problem, i.e. people pingwise far from the server will soon seek a faster server. I regularly play all night and all day long so timezones aren't really so interesting... :p

I have some news about the clan.
There is a new IRC channel instead of #ubu-e @ Freenode its #ubu-e @ Quakenet.
The reason for the change is that we have lost control of the old one and since most other TC:E clans use quakenet.
The second news is that we have a dedicated server.
Dont have the connnection details for the moment but it have (ubu-e) in server name.

I've tried to make some examples of the Ubuntu Clanpage, but there are to much options to designs the page and i dont know how the page should look like!
I've got some generell questions about the design:
Should it be simple?
-Like the Ubuntupages, and the OS himself. We could use the Ubuntucolors, the Ubuntugraphics (I believe they are GPL), and the generell look.
Pro: If u visit the site u think its a part of ubuntu. A large selection of graphics
Con: It looks a bit "Old" maybe "Cheap".

-Should it look modern / Clanlike?
-Like sk.gaming, or Team64.AMD (for example). We could create own graphics, logos, etc. And we could create our own style.
Pro: Many options. Modern look.
Con: It doesnt look ubuntu-like!

These are two options i prefered. i believe that the irc is a nice way to discuss this!

i dont know whats the problem, but after installing TC:E , the latest version i only get like 10 severs to play with 300-500 ping, its awfull to play like that.
With enemy territory no problems at all.
