Create animated gif?

So how would I go about creating an animated gif? I've heard that Gimp is an option (messed with that some with some success). But I'm not quite sure what to do still. Is there a free program out there that would work? Preferably with a graphical interface unlike gifsicle. Or is there a good tutorial that someone could point me to? I've already read through a few, and they weren't extremely helpful. Anyway, thanks all! :)

I believe in GIMP, you just put each frame as a separate layer, and then save as a GIF file, and it should know that it is an animated GIF.

+1 for the Gimp suggestion, I've used and it's confusing at first but not too tricky to work out!!

(I think those comments hold true for Gimp in general - the hard bit is familiarising yourself with it - once my girlfriend took a look and explained how things worked in photoshop to me, it was easy and now i use it all the time!!)

I use it too and want to say that this prog is very effective for me:popcorn:Am I missing something? I'm looking at the Video Avatar 'requirements' page (http://www.geovid.com/Video_Avatar/Requirements), and I see nothing about Linux there. Are you running it with wine, or what?

i used a tool a while back that was built into gimp which allowed you to dump frames from a video clip. i remember that i had to install it from source and that it was in the last year or so but i just cant remember what it was or where to find it again. I really liked that plugin/gimp add on. does any one know what its called?
