This has been bugging me ever since I made the transition from windows/adobe to linux/gimp... gimp doesn't allow you to change the color of individual letters in a word using the text box. you'd have to make seperate text layers for each letter you want a diffrent color and then line them up which seems to me like a huge waste of energy. Anyone know if they plan to change that?

A reasonable work around is to do your text in Inkscape (much more capable IMHO)... Export as a bitmap from Inkscape and import into gimp... You can drag and drop from a file manager into your gimp image window. and it will become a new layer - just make sure you resolution settings match up.
But beyond that the best thing would be to ask the gimp developers themselves.
