Hello All fellow UBUNTU Christian Edition users!!!

Before I switched over to UCE I was a long time M$ Windows user, however I now use UCE and I love it.

I also used to use a compiler called Borland Delphi 7 { its based on Pascal language }

I would like to install Lazarus { for Linux } which I think comes with the Free Pascal for Linux included as part of it.

I want to know the following:

a) where do I download Lazarus (including Free Pascal) from?

b) what are the steps I need to take to install it?

Please note that I'm a newbie to UCE and I'm not at all sure of my way are the command line.

Also (c) are there some tutorials I can work thru' about learning Lazarus / Free Pascal for Linux???

Here (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=89339&package_id=204004) is the download page for it. Just get the fp_all_deb.tar, right click and select "Extract Here...", and click on each file to install it (I havn't check what files are in it, but it appears there are a good many). You might need to install the packages in a specific order (it will let you know when you try).

Hi,

Thank you for the link. I'm downloading (now) the file you told me to get.

On a related topic: Do you know anyone who would like to form a team with me to work on some Lazarus + Free Pascal programs?

I would like to try to convert some of my existing Borland Delphi 7 {M$ Windows} programs to Lazarus and try to make them cross-platform.

Regards,
pew

I don't really know much about Pascal (I tried it once on DOS, but C++ appeals to me a bit more), but I am sure there are some people who use it. Maybe ask in the programming part of the forums and see if there is anyone there.

Peter,

I'm pretty well-versed in Delphi. I've used every version from Delphi 3 to Delphi 2009, which I have installed on my laptop at home. However, I'm trying to branch out and learn other operating systems and development frameworks, so I've taken an interest in Lazarus and various incarnations of Linux.

I have both it and Oracle XE installed on my Kubuntu machine at home, but can't connect to it. There is a configuration piece of install that is missing. If you or anyone knows how to install Oracle XE and Lazarus on a Kubuntu/Ubuntu machine, and get the two working together, please let me know. Any information would be a big help.

Thanks in advance.
