Hey hey hey.
So I'm a bit new to the community, but I've got my hands dirty in some CLI nitty gritty before, so don't go too easy on me, though I doubt this will be too rough.
So the situation is, I play WoW. I play it like a fiend. Like, hardcore arena style, in a 5v team fluctuating around the 2k mark on the Shadowburn battlegroup ATM. Well, I finally decided to go Linux full time, and I need to be able to use Ventrilo for both listening AND speaking.
I understand that WoW doesn't play nice with Wine running any sound engine but OSS, and that OSS doesn't allow multiple sound sources, so the recommended way to run WoW and Ventrillo at the same time is to run them both with aoss as 'aoss wine /path/to/app.exe'. But forget that. I don't need sound in WoW.
I would like to know if there is a way to keep WoW from accessing sound engines at all, allowing me to use whatever engine I like for Wine, and as such, Ventrillo.
If anyone can tell me what I want to do here, as well as some suggestions for a good sound engine to use. I'd prefer an engine allowing me to easily pipe specific input and output to specific devices, Vent in to USB mic headset, Vent out to the same headphones, certain apps to one soundcard and others to yet another. I don't need a step by step for this portion, I feel comfortable figuring it out, I just don't feel like installing and fiddling with all kinds of things that may well not work at all.
Also if I could be directed to a solution allowing press-to-talk without having the Vent window as my current focus I would scream like a gleeful young girl or at least appreciate the hell out of it.
Thanks a lot.
