I'm looking for a good way for members of my household to gain access to the files located on my ubuntu box, and I realized that it would be great if they could just navigate to the server via a browser and just search for the files ala google/locate/grep/intranet search. Does such a beast exist? (indexing of shared folders on the network would also be great, but I suppose that could be accomplished by just mounting the shares)

Are you sure? Sounds like a lotta grief to me.

Why not just give em a link to a shared folder on their desktop? That sounds pretty simple to use?

you would think so, but its hard enough for them to find files on their own computer ;) . Im looking at beagle and peagle right now, but I'm not sure if it will allow file access via the page itself atm.

well... I tried mnogosearch, but between spending a while trying to figure things out with a lack of documentation, and no desire to recompile php to work with the php search page, I gave up on that. I'm thinking either htdig or namazu2 at this point, but htdig seems like it hasn't been maintained, and I can't even find an offical page for namazu2. Any other suggestions?

can google desktop be installed and have the ability to search via a web interface? I tried beagle with peagle, but it spiked my cpu usage and couldnt figure out how to get it working quite right.
