Hey forum folk,
Need a simple way /command to alert me if a port stops receiving data.
The story....
I'm running a 6.10 box in a production environment that's sole purpose is to take a crufty old stream of 9600 baud Ascii data (it's some old school news feed) and recraft it into purrty XML for Web 2.0 fun.
I had written a little bash script to tell alert me if the program halted or crashed, but sometimes the incoming data drops out and our data stream goes haywire due to the drop out. We need a way to alert us if data stops coming in on a specific port.
Where's me UberLinux geek forum masters to school me? :)
