im using ubuntu on a new computer (amd dual core, 2 gig mem, etc) but with an old monitor. non lcd. It has the little settings to change the appearance of the OS on the screen, like contrast, and how it is placed or stretched. I change these to be perfect, but after rebooting it resets to a smaller, more obnoxious setting. is there any way of saving these settings?

Rather than start a new thread I'll add my pretty much identical complaint here.

Why doesn't Ubuntu 7.10 save the settings I select? I use both the user preferences and admin settings in the GUI. I select, test and click OK. Then I have to restart to for the chosen settings to take effect. The next time I start it up it seems to be a random event as to whether or not it will start with the settings I chose (1024x768) or go back to the one I do not like (1280x1024). My monitor is currently a Mag Innovision 786N which isn't on the list but again, my question is why aren't the settings I select saved?

This is really my only gripe with Ubuntu. I'm fortunate enough to be beta testing it at work where I don't have this problem and since I'm using it there I switched from Mandriva to Ubuntu at home.
