:) Have been looking around for sales figures but I wonder, how many Pcs with Ubuntu has Dell already sold?
Any estimates?
Just a general question since I've not been able to find any estimated figures so far on Ubuntu.

Oh right, I guess they haven't even started taking orders, huh? Or have they?
Geez...I posted a bit too early, then. :lolflag:

Don't expect millions of copies of Ubuntu to be moved in a month, I mean there is still the general stigma in a lot of uninformed/misinformed users minds that open source is hard/bad/will get you sued, just a friendly bashing from MS after all? At best I'd say its a niche market, if they move a few hundred thousand a month, that will be an accomplishment, and remember its US only too.

Geez... lol. I expect sales to be modest , yet, I'm interested in the figures. ;)
That's all. :)

Unless Dell makes a page explaining the differences between Ubuntu and Windows, what GNU/Linux is, etc; I don't see sales taking off right away.

I'm more concerned that the bean counters at Dell won't appreciate Linux being a niche product for their desktop line, so they'll see the "poor" sales figures and shut down the plan before any sort of momentum is achieved.

Oh, of course...this coming from B. Gates. Seriously, we are not that dumb. It's obvious you're Bill Gates, and you're here to cast doubt on Ubuntu.
You and your buddy Ballmer have not had enough fun sending out threats? I am surprised you paid Ubuntu's forums a visit. You probably heard about Dell's moves, and had to come by to say something. Mr. B. Gates, have fun with your FUD, but please take it somewhere else.
You're not needed here. The audacity of Gates himself...

Er...I kinda think the username is meant as a joke, Pennypacker...
and yeah, I agree, I hope they don't try to compare sales to Windows boxen and give up on Linux like they did last time

I believe Pennypacker was indulging in a bit of sarcasm. . .

Wow, you are eager! You have posed this question many times now....
Is there a journalist in the room who can call Dell to ask?

I've been waiting weeks for my Dell Ubuntu system. I can't get them to tell me what's taking it so long, but they gave me free overnight delivery once it does ship. So maybe they are selling more than expected.

publicly traded companies have to share honey. Normally after their fiscal YEAR.
Don't sweat it ppl , all in due time.

I'm sure there are lots of folks like myself. The model computer I ordered is not offered with Ubuntu.
Using sales figures alone to determine how many people are buying dells because of the Ubuntu offering is meaningless. They only offer a few models with pre-installed and don't offer any consumer lines with no operating system installed.
I will say that going with Dell was based largely on Ubuntu. There are currently some install challenges with the laptop I ordered. I'm confident that those will be cleared up in future releases. When you have OEM support it only helps both products.
