I have an MAudio Delta 1010 and I want to connect an electric guitar to it. I've done a tone of reading, and some articles say you can plug a guitar straight into an input, while others say it needs some kind of pre-amplification first.
So before I shop - should I get a guitar preamp, or will a DI box work (behringer makes one with 20db of gain) to connect a guitar straight into my 1010?
thanks,
Jon

Hello there
as another Delta 1010 owner, and someone who tinkers with recordings on occasion, I'd like to recommend that you do use some sort of preamp. a powered DI box might do the trick, but I think you should be looking into buying a small end mixer for flexibility's sake. This way if you need to record vocals, a multitiude of instruments, or want to just mic your amp for a more natural sound, you wont be that limited by hardware. I started off with a Behringer eurorack mxb1002 and I can say it gets the job done nicely for around $145 CDN

I picked up one of these http://www.smproaudio.com/PR8MKII.htm and use it with my 1010. Despite some bad reviews I have have had pretty good luck with it.
