Hi,
Can somebody tell me how to make a Region 1 DVD of my home movie? I burned a DVD of my home movie using Kino and DVDStyler but it wouldn't play on Honda odyssey minivan's DVD player. The player in the car is capable of playing Region 1 and ALL Region DVDs.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Are you sure thats the problem and not the media compatibility with the dvd player? I ask because a region free dvd shouldn't be a problem

I'm sure because the other DVD I created using Windows VISTA DVD maker worked fine on the car. Its also an OfficeDepot 16X dvd as one I created in Ubuntu.

Well, I also think the matter is not of making a region 1 dvd.
I am afraid the problem might be the dvd type (data rather than video) and not the region.
You know, Vista tends to be quite "protective" towards its users: you just tell it you want to make a video dvd and it makes all. Ubuntu is a little more "open" (well, not just a little, actually WAY more ;) )
What did you use to burn your disc? I mean, which app(s)?

I used Kino to capture the video from my Sony camcorder and used DVD Styler to create the menu and ISO file. Then I used CD/DVD creator (nautilus burner) to burn the DVD.

I too have been unable to create a DVD that my standalone DVD players will accept as being in the right "area" - this is a genuine problem. I'm running Feisty Fawn and I'm in the USA/
This same computer/DVD burner worked fine burning DVDs under Vista (which was what was on it when I bought it), so it isn't a hardware issue.
Thanks for any advice.

Is there anyone who can answer my question?

I burned a dvd using Kino & dvdauthor and then Nautilus. The Kino documentation told how to export to mpeg and then run dvdauthor. When I get home tonite I could post the exact commands I used. I posted on this subject in the other multimedia forum about a week ago. The dvd worked fine in a standalone dvd player as well as a windoze PC.

I have found that DVD-R media is WAY more compatible than DVD+R media in set top DVD players.
What type of DVD blank are you using?
