After seeing how well we convinced Dell (http://www.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/ubuntu?c=us&cs=19&l=en), I thought I'd try to start to fight for Linux support from Adobe, whose software is the only thing keeping me dual-booting. Add a post to this thread (http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?forumid=39&catid=220&threadid=1267523&enterthread=y) to help.

it seems a great idea, I wish that we could sign a petition or something...maybe this way adobe should take our cause in consideration

Adobe must be convinced // must know that it would not be profitable to make the Linux support otherwise they would have done it a long time ago.

Seriously, how many people who call for the Linux support have their eg. Photoshop legally? And how many Linux users do you think would actually buy Photoshop even if there were the Linux support? I think very few of few.

I think more then you would know.. there are lots of shops running linux only now mostly for 3d, and with vista cripling opengl linux is becomming more interesting :) offcourse photoshop is used in many areas too like texturing etc :)

Adobe says it would cost too much and too little profit but really, I bet there are billions of linux users that would buy photoshop or dreamweaver for linux.

I hope you're exaggerating. Desktop Linux users make up around 1% of the OS market, and a small fraction of these users would actually pay for Adobe's software. It doesn't make financial sense for them to put time and money into Linux versions of any of their apps.

I would definitely like to have Photoshop for Linux, but it's definitely not going to happen any time soon. For now, we're stuck with Photoshop 7 in Wine.

Unfortunately that's the very truth.

as much as i like photoshop, and think it's great. theres no way i would pay over 100 dollars for it. i already have gimp. i would be more likely to spend 200 or so on another camera lens.

actually adobe has been on the move towards open source as they are planning on releasing open source tools for flash development

Don't kid yourself. Adobe has no interest in open-sourcing their apps. Flash is one thing. They want to use Flash to gain marketshare in web multimedia, so making Flash more open benefits them the most.

Trust me, Adobe is just as bad as Microsoft when it comes to things like proprietary garbage and activation BS.

Unlike Microsoft Abode has no competition on the market and releasing it's code free (expect of Flex which wasn't a huge success anyway) may be the last time Adobe dominates.
