You could use Vista and Ubuntu on a Dual boot System. Just install Vista and the Install Ubuntu and you have the best of both worlds.

Care to translate for me?
I think what he meant was....
Windows Vista is better than Ubuntu, it asks me if I REALLY want to do things :p
That's how he meant his post I believe... was a backhanded jab at the stupidness of the UAC's question, "Do you really want to do this?"

The OP is pretty clever, actually. I think that the OP is the first person to make that type of comment about Windows, Vista in particular. By sarcastically commenting that Vista is better than Ubuntu because it confirms your every action to the point of annoyance, he/she was making a point that actually shows an area where Ubuntu is better than Windows. Very clever, very sharp wit. Great job!

Call me a cynic, but I don't think the folks at MS deserve anyones wit for the ability to copy others and generate an inferior product (see, UAC, Virtual PC, Frontpage, Aero... the list never bottoms out >.<.) Just kinda seems sad... very very... SAD!!! Waaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh *starts crying cuz he was an MS user for 15 years before finding Ubuntu*

I dual boot Vista and Ubuntu just in case I ever need to go to Windows for anything, which so far I haven't really found the need to. But earlier today I booted up Vista just to see what was going on over in the lonely part of the partition, when I got bombarded with pop ups and confirmations and after about 10 minutes of constant interrogations from Vista about what exactly I wanted to do and also having to use IE, I restarted back to Ubuntu. Its so peaceful to be able to work and play without being asked if you really want to work and play.

Hey, why don't you just ditch Windows? I ditched OS X for Ubuntu. I'm purely Linux now :guitar: . Woohoo. You can just use WINE for Windows apps.

This is exactly my experience on my new notebook PC - I occasionally boot it into Vista to see what it's like, but get rapidly fed up because:
- it seems to take an age to boot
- too many popups
- it keeps badgering me to register the trial version of Norton
- it keeps badgering me about other bits and bobs too (I particularly disliked the repeated checks that I was really the person who asked it to make system recovery DVDs).
- It tried to sign me up for Windows Genuine Advantage
Ho hum, life's more peaceful in Ubuntu-land

only issue i can foresee is either the inability to play new games or the frustration getting them to work , But - this is being worked on.

I fail to see how is vista's fault if you installed norton...
and if you have a legal copy of vista, why are you so afraid of wga?

I didn't install Norton, it's just there as a 90 day trial - the issue for me is really the profusion of pop-up notification, and this is one example of such.
Yep, the Vista is legit, but I guess my objection to WGA is the way the whole text of the WGA notification is written - the assumption that I'm doing something dodgy is implicit. I don't think I am afraid of it per se.

The best of both worlds? I'd rather have XP and if I were forced to.
