One of the major packages I use these days is a nice 3-D character generator and animation tool called iClone (www.reallusion.com/iclone). They don't offer a Linux version, and so am wondering if there are any Linux packages that can provide a similar experience?

I'm familiar with Blender - but it doesn't have an easy/simple character function...

TIA,
Ewan

There is also a blender plug-in called makehuman (http://projects.blender.org/projects/makeh/).

Which doesn't appear to have been updated since 2004...

Oh well, guess I'll keep searching until I can find something that works.

Yeah, that is pretty old. I've never used it, but my son has and my recollection is that it has a number of limitations anyway, for example generating meshes that weren't always well suited to rig for animation.

Some 3d apps run pretty well under Wine, for example some versions of Zbrush run quite well, so you could always try using iClone with Wine.
