Here is a Lightscribe CD label I made for Ubuntu 7.04, 64bit. I didn't save the Photoshop file. Sorry, but changing the version, or changing 64bit isn't too hard. This looks great on an orange Lightscribe disc.

That's what I need a lightscribe DVD burner...

*curses his 2 non lightscribe DVD burners*

How much are the lightscribe discs? More expensive?

Usually, but they're worth it. And now there are multiple colors available, not just gold.

If you want to do some of your own CD lables (I'm working on one for edubuntu right now), check out VectorMagic - http://vectormagic.stanford.edu/ - I used it to vectorize the edu-logo so I could blow it up for CD size.

Here's what I came up with, you can use it in 4L, but you need to resize it a bit, and shift it. The "arm" on the logo will run off the edge of the CD, no real way around that.

The placement of the version number means it will be easy to erase and re-enter for future use.

You could also use inkscape (it traces bitmaps and turns them into vectors).

Here is what I came up for Gutsy.

I really don't know how to use Gimp, so I think there is darned much to improve on it, but I just wanted to test my Lightscribe-discs.

I should have made the little gibbon bigger, but I was in kind of hurry. There is one Gutsy gibbon hanging on to Linux for you guys :)

I would say if you used the official logo and the Ubuntu title font, then that label would look great!

I have a finished disk, will try to put up a pic this weekend yet. (wish my brother printer/scanner was working correctly :/ )

I think the text needs to be black instead of greyscale tho to get a better contrast, or maybe where it overlaps the logo it could be white.

Did you install the drivers off the lightscribe.com site? Did the simple labler work?

Mcnee....

your brother is a printer/scanner?

did you buy him at a garage sale, or was he a christmas present?

does he have a usb port, and and and what do your parents think of him, surely a new addition to the family heritage is the most pleasant thing to happen in your parents life since "The Bill" started its new series....

The best part about your new family member is that it/he/(the-thing) wont contest you for inheritance....

or will it?

Hey look I don't mean to rain on everyone's parade, but I've got everything installed, but I'm stuck with the stupid LightScribe Simple Labeler, which means I am stuck with being able to write text-only lables.

Your graphics are making me extremely jealous.

The thing I'm having trouble with is the 4L-gui program just refuses to detect my MEMOREX DVD+-RAM 530L v1 5M64 1 36 (/dev/hdb)

I'm using Ubuntu 7.10 b/t/w

pls help

Wrongo, there's a couple threads out there more specifically about 4L and such that you might find someone more knowledgeable - because this thread is about labels, those with the know-how to help you probably aren't even checking this thread out.

As to the image of the Edubuntu cd - I remembered to bring it to work to scan...

ah, of course - and that would be why it just says 'lightscribe label for ubuntu' as the subject - you know, i didn't think about that possibility - i'll post the badass labels i personally hand craft if and when those other '4L' threads solve my thinker's problems

I got my XP Pro november 2007 £250! It already had a lightscribe drive in it and space for a floppy. Even though, i must say i prefer runniing ubuntu in virtual box. Can't install it, dad'll go mad, and i couldn't play all my games and wine doesn't cut the mustard.

Wish more people would share their labels. I've yet to try my lightscribe burner.

I'm wanting a Lightscribe drive and will need an external one for my laptop. Can anyone recommend an external model that they have been able to get to work under Ubuntu? I've seen several at the stores but have been hesitant to buy one for fear it wouldn't work on my Ubuntu partition which I use way more than the Win side. I know the Lightscribe website has drivers and the labeling program but I'm not sure I should presume that would mean it would work with Linux. I found a really nice and slim external LaCie drive that actually states on the box that it works with Linux and Windows but it's sold out everywhere even online! Are the Linux users swarming for it???? I'd like to think so!

I have a HP DVD 740 in a external case connected by firewire that runs perfect under 8.10.

This is perfect, I've been searching all over for a generic Ubuntu scribe. This will stand the test of time as every new major release (and some minor) I burn a copy. Thanks a million!!

I quoted the original below, can't seem to delete this post, sorry!
