SVG images are better than traditional JPG, PNG or GIF images to use for desktop backgrounds because firstly they load faster and secondly you can set desktop colour for them and make them less boring. To make an SVG background you need to install "Inkscape" from hoary and make your own SVG desktop background. I made one very quickly and attached it to this thread. You can find some translucent PNG and SVG backgrounds from:
http://www.it.gnome.org/~bat/translucent/
I hope somebody finds this useful!

This is really neat. However- I am running a 1280x1024 desktop and wish to use your fractal 2. No big deal, I fire up inkscape, copy your stuff from fractal2 into my new image. Everything looks good, I save. Set as my desktop and one of the fractions of the orbital logo is 100% transparant. I have no idea how to fix this. I went into the "fill&shade" properties, and it is the same as in your image. Any pointers?

I was under the impression that .SVG files were slower to load than JPEG's and PNG's .. guess I was wrong.

I would say that it's a bug in inkscape then. Have you tried the the latest version (http://www.inkscape.org/) as well? It's very easy to install it with autopackage. By the way if you just open that SVG file and go to "file->document preferences" then you can change the canvas size.

Thanks! I couldn't figure out how to resize the canvas. I did as you instructed and it worked well.
