I found this POS in the trash with no Ram, HDD or Disk drive. It had a 56K and an ISDN modem so I swaped them out with a NIC and a USB card I had laying around. Threw in a hard drive and a DVDrom and it is up and installing Ubuntu Linux.

my roomates and I have found the best place for PC parts....
at the end of everysemester at some university.
Go dumpster diving, students don't want stuff anymore, so they chuck it.

I am putting together a desktop for my girls (3-yr-old and 1-yr-old) They both use the laptop and I want something they cannot drop on the floor.
I asked my wife at a good time.
I found a used-computer store advertising pII computers for 40 bucks, I called and asked for a pII 400 Mhx with no ram, disk or cd. Twenty bucks.
The thing is quieter than my main computer (it looks like it has been kicked around a lot but it works fine) It is a pentium 400Mhz which seems to run almost as fast as my Via C3 (735Mhz)... It also suspends to disk (hibernation) which my main computer does not do....
Go figure!

Well, apparently no one's taken the opportunity yet in this thread, so here goes:
Hauling heavy computer parts back into house and seeing a doctor about your hernia the next day...$35.
Repairing torn jeans while dangling from a metal dumpster to salvage a 400 MHz "celery"...$5.
Slappin' all the computer parts together and showing off what a might fine distro CD can do for old hardware...priceless!
