I don't know how you guys feel, but it seems that the apple-intel forums have become very fragmented - with the same questions and responses coming up time and time again. Which can make it quite frustrating when searching for an answer.
I think it would be a good idea if we could get sub-forums added to the Apple-Intel section of this site.
For example:
Bootloaders
WI-FI
Trackpad/Keyboard
Power managment
Installation (guides & links)
Graphics cards
File systems
I just feel that it would be more effective to concentrate the amount of knowledge and information that is available here into a tighter, more focused forum.
It would also be cool if we had somewere just to chat in general about apple-intel (or anything in fact).
Any feedback on this would be really cool, and if you guys want it, i will send a request into site admin.
Thanks,
chrisj303

This is true.. and I'm not helping any..
I think what would be better is a sticky with the known solutions.. and that sticky could be updated once something new is found...

But then you'd have to go through a huge thread to get what you wanted. I'd rather have seperate sub-forum for each of the issues i listed above.

I am always in favor of organization. Ubuntu users on Mactels are as someone said: "a cult within a cult within a cult." I think we face some very unique situations (such as dealing with EFI in a BIOS world) that don't necessarily crop up for PC users. With that, we also have the advantage of sharing pretty much the same hardware (aside from the variations between MBs and Pros and CD or C2Ds.) I think it makes more sense for us to have these various sub-forums than for other platform-types.
+1 here.

The "Cult within a cult within a cult" thing was ME!
And pleased to hear your support - is there anything in particular you would like see?

I think there needs to be some special attention paid toward installing in a multi-boot environment and post-install configuration (ie touchpad, graphics, wireless, etc.)

We have found when have created many sub forums people get confused where exactly to post.

But if the sub-forums were labelled properly, like what i suggested in my original post, surely that would prevent this from happening.
Please, we really need a clean-up on the apple-forums - advances are being made what seems every couple days. It can be really confusing and frustrating when looking for an up-to-date solution.
Now Wi-Fi has been somewhat sorted, there are very few 'show stopping' issues. Given the very narrow range of hardware/components found in intel-macs (compared to the PC world) it should be much easier to find the best info, and fast.
Even if you don't like the idea of sub-forums, there must be something you can do to make our forums better.
With the recent release of feisty, there has been a massive influx of new mac users looking to Dual/tripleboot and i'm sure this will continue to happen in the future. It would be great if these guys could get what info they need to be up and running without trawling through pages and pages of unrelated posts.
The apple-intel forum is without doubt the best place on the net for up-to-date info regarding our strange little cult(!), and i just can't help but feel that it could, and should be better presented than it is now.
Thanks for your consideration, i really hope something will come of it.

We've tried the sub forum idea before and it didn't work at all, some people got the idea but the other 90% didn't. It ended up fragmenting posts even worse as some areas were not populated or didnt warrant enough visitors and peoples quests were not answered.

How about stickys, for known solutions to common problems? - there must be something that can be done to make it better.

I feel we make well use of stickies. What would your suggest to improve the use of stickies in the forums.

There are no stickies in the Apple-Intel section of these forums. Please note that it is this forum that i talking about specifically!

If you want to make a sticky with all the common problems and structure it nicely etc. etc. then prod one of the mods and we'll stick it if we think it deserves it :)

Basically we just want somewhere to stick posts according there subject. These in particular :
Installation
Multiboot/GRUB/LILO
Wi-Fi
Trackpad/Keyboard
PowerManagement
At the moment the Apple-Intel forums are a free for all, and it's really difficult to find the best, most recent info, fast. The amount of duplicate problem-posts is staggering, and i belive a direct result of not having any sort of catorgories within the forum.
I don't know how to create 'stickys' TBH, i didn't even think it was possible without being site/forum admin.
Thanks for listening guys, and please don't take what i'm saying as 'wingeing' - i honestly just want these forums to be better for everyone that uses them. They are without doubt the best source of info for Ubuntu-Apple-Intel users at the moment.

As a regular user, you cannot.
What Pricey was offering:
- Write a thread to be stickied. Put all the links, organize things, write them up
- Ring someone, admin or mod (I'd say admin, muahaha) , either with a PM or reporting your post, and ask it to be stickied
- We'll read it and decide if it gets stickied
