I have a mini with a duo core and 1.5 GB mem. I've installed (more than once) 7.04 to an external 40BG USB drive. The install from the CD goes fine..and running from the live CD works fine (wifi also), I just can't boot from the external drive. I've tried using both boot camp and rEFIt and both leave me with just a blank screen after boot. I've read a number of threads here on related issues, but most people seem to be partitioning their main disk.. I want it on an external drive. I have not tried removing grub and installing lilo but have seem some threads mention this. I have not tried to use both boot camp and rEFIt at the same time.. when I installed rEFIt boot camp was not installed.. and I de-installed rEFIt before I installed boot camp.
The most encouraging result was after I initialized the disk under OSX, after rebooting and selecting the "windows" partition, I got a grub prompt.. unfortunately the disk init under OSX had already did away with the previous 7.04 install. Any help appreciated.
