hey all
thought i'd start a contest for an email signature that would promote the use of ubuntu. the goals are:
* has to be short (1-2 lines, though if the artist in you /really/ demands 3 lines, that's cool too)
* has to be intriguing to the reader, to entice a person unfamiliar with it to find out more about ubuntu
* would be nice if it were fun/amusing/witty
to start things off, this is what i came up with on short notice (stole first line from the ubuntu poster :) ):
The best things in life are free. Use Ubuntu Linux. Find out more at http://www.ubuntu.com
but i think it is kinda weak/lame.
think you can do better? go ahead, give it a shot.
if there's demand, then once we have a few hundred entries, i will choose like 10 that i (and everyone else seems to) like best and post a "summary post" for easy reference. otherwise, you can just trawl through the whole thread and choose one for yourself. then we can all stick one of them into our email sigs to promote ubuntu. it worked for hotmail back in the day, why not for ubuntu? :)

Why not stick with what we have? There are a number of great ones used by the community already:
I am what I am because of who we all are. Use Ubuntu GNU/Linux (http://www.ubuntu.com/)
Free as in freedom, free as in beer: Ubuntu GNU/Linux (http://www.ubuntu.com)
Set your desktop free with Ubuntu (http://www.ubuntu.com)
Humanity in computing. Ubuntu GNU/Linux (http://www.ubuntu.com)
I personally am not a stickler for the Linux versus GNU/Linux distinction; I think it can add a bit of intrigue, though!

" Experience the Best. Experience Ubuntu. (http://ubuntu.com) "
If the reader don't know what is ubuntu, he probably going to click on link.
after that , the web site will do all !!!

I like that a lot. Sounds like coffee, so I'd click! ;)

hmm, you seem to be implying that there's a list of these out there somewhere... is that true, and if so, would you care to give me a link? :)

This is mine - yes it promotes Opera as well but I hope it gets the message across:
Using Opera's revolutionary e-mail client: http://www.opera.com/mail/ on Ubuntu Linux: http://www.ubuntu.com.
This communication was produced in a Microsoft free zone - a Genuine Advantage.

If someone who doesn't know anything about ubuntu or linux tries it by themselves without help from an experienced user, and they have a bad experience with it and be turned off forever. I don't think this is the best way to promote it.

How about pretending ubuntu is real expensive to buy and has super advanced anti piracy measures built in... Then tell them you have cracked the code!!!
"Get it before they put me inside! 0.o"
Ohhh.. everyone seems to love getting the latest greatest OS with the Reg Key cracked or something... hell I think most window users run a cracked version anyway, I don't know anyone who ever pays for MS stuff...
