My issue is that I originally had Ubuntu 6.10 installed, then I installed the CE that corresponded. I updated my system and somehow I think it is now mostly Ubuntu 7.04, which is not currently compatible with my version of CE. However, I still have some CE junk on my PC. I just want to get rid of CE completely. I think this is possible, because it is not a clean install, I just updated to CE by converting to it from the original Ubuntu 6.10. Can anyone help?

mrphantastic,
If you want help from a community, it is best not to insult it. If you think it is junk, then you shouldn't have installed it. Just remove all the packages that you don't want on there. Or do a clean install.

Whoa ! Dude...I had absolutely no intention of insulting the Ubuntu CE users or anything like that. I guess I just used the wrong terminology...forgive me. It was 3 in the morning and I didn't think about it. "I still have some CE "items" on my pc. Sorry about that, didn't mean to offend anyone at all....

Also, shane2peru, I am not much of an expert with Ubuntu, just an intermediate user I suppose. Are you sure that only removing the additional packages that Ubuntu CE has to offer, will get rid of ALL traces of it. I just don't know if I will still have compatibility issues after that. Any ideas?

We have had a lot of 'attacks' on CE, so people are hesitant to help when they read things like that. Glad to hear it was just not written right. :) There are a few things. 1. if you list what packages you are interested in getting rid of we can certainly help with that. Actually if you just open System -> Synaptic Manager and then just search for the packages you want to remove, that is the best way. If you want to remove Dan's guardian let us know. There are a few packages that need removed as well that slip my mind right now. If you just want to be compatible for upgrade type stuff, then you just need to search for gnome-desktop in the synaptics program and install it. That will have you using Gnome-Desktop and is very compatible with everything. I assume by compatible you mean for upgrading, because really that is they only thing that you need compatibility with. Perhaps you can explain the compatibility issue.

I think it's just crap that people are getting on everybody's case about Ubuntu CE. If we, the Christian community, (including myself) want to have such a system, why the hek is it a problem. I am very sorry to hear that people are reacting in such a way. If they don't like the system, then they should just not get involved, instead of whining about it and being rude. It would make things so much simpler. Anyway, I actually love the CE concept, the only weird thing for me is the confusion of some of the Bible programs, but I have only had them a little while. Regarding the 'compatibility' I mentioned, I am just wondering if I can run the CE version that is designed for Edgy Eft, if I have currently done the upgrade process to Feisty Fawn? I had to upgrade to Feisty via 'terminal' cuz the 'updrade' option refused to show up under the 'upgrade manager' thing in administration. I did exaclty what it said though, and my 'system monitor' says I am running Feisty.

I would suggest that you download and run the latest convert_me script for Feisty. This should adjust all of the Ubuntu CE stuff for Feisty. Keep in mind that you will lose some of your configuration settings such as your desktop setup and your firefox bookmarks and such. These are stored in directories in your Home directory. They are .gconf and .mozilla . These are hidden files so you will need to select Show Hidden Files in the Nautilus. Then you can save yours before running the script. Then you can put your original settings back if desired.
Just let me know if you have any questions.
