Sound Issues

I just installed ubuntu on my ibook g4, and so far its working great, cept for the sound when i try to play cds, gnome-cd nor xmms will play any sound. i get sound from when i burn the cd and play the oggs, but the apps wont play sound from the cd itself. i also get sound in other apps like gaim etc, just this cd issue is the problem. anyone experience this or know how to remedy? ](*,)

Edit: I got sound coming out of xmms/beep by changing the cd plugin to play digital extract instead of analog. gnome-cd still doesnt play sound though.
