cannot register with any iteration of prefered name

Hey folks,
I've been trying for days on a multitude of browsers and systems to register with my preferred name. While I realize I risk never getting anything close by posting it...it appears that having the word spacebass or any variant simply will not work. Every time it says the name is registered,

I've tried literally mashing the keyboard before and after
