So, Sony's PS3 allows you to put some Linux on it (with restrictions, of course). How does that manage out? Is it nice overall?

And I bought this crazy case for my PS2 and put it all together in about an hour.

How I managed to do it in an hour is beyond me, because I thought I had it right the first time, then realized I forgot some screws, so just to be sure I opened it up and screwed them back in, then I tried playing a game but it made humming noises, so I had to open it up again... Just a mad game of opening and closing. Thank God I didn't cut the ribbon cord or I'd have lost my marbles.

What do you guys do? Paint consoles/computers, put LED lights in them?

I used to mod xboxs, I actually still have one, I don't play console games very often, but I have a 200gb hdd in it I have games on it (that I own), but the main purpose for my xbox is of course, my front-end media server. I have the xbox hooked up to the Living room tele, the xbox is connected to my smb share, so I just stream all of the media I want to my tele, since I already have a huge fileserver full of my DVD's etc. I don't have to go through switching my dvd's etc. I just use my xbox controller, I love it for this fact and it's cheaper than a Mythbox + I don't have digi cable :(.

I bought an XBox recently for the sake of putting Linux on it and using it as a MythTV frontend. The guy I bought it from warned me that the DVD drive was flakey, but I figured it wasn't going to matter if I could just get it softmodded and booting Linux. Soon after I got it softmodded, the DVD drive died completely, and I discovered that XBoxes won't boot if they can't find the DVD drive. So then I bought a mod-chip that should make it ignore the dead DVD drive and boot anyway. I haven't had a chance to put the mod chip in yet, but I may try and do that this afternoon.

You can buy xbox DVD-roms, I recommend the Phillips drives, the Thompsons suck!

I think eStarland (http://www.estarland.com) has XBox replacement stuff, I think I even saw a DVD drive in there. I've been buying from there basically since they started so I recommend them... Lemme see if I can find the drive.

EDIT: Found it (http://www.estarland.com/XBox.product.18706.html), but here is the thing - one, it's a Philips drive (like the other guy mentioned, they suck) and two, it's out of stock anyway.

Looks like eBay is your best bet. Or Amazon. In fact, go with Amazon.

EDIT 2: Well, here is another reliable site with spare parts.
