View Full Version : Ubuntu-ise Wallpaper

I had an idea of how to Ubuntu-ise essentially any wallpaper.
The process would be something like this;
Take an image, make the image grayscale and add a brown-ish filter, like those old "sepia" photos which use brown instead of black...
I don't know how to do that exactly using the Gimp, but I'll look into it...
Anyone got any similar ideas? Or does anyone know how to do this?

This is done quite easily. Open up an image.
layer
colors
detach the menu (just discovered this, this gnome feature is SO GREAT, I love it, ready to trash photoshop anytime :)) and you got all the color correction tools you want. so..
Hue/saturation
move the saturation slider to the left, OK
from there on, you could use the color balance tool or the colorize tool (still in the same menu box)
But that's for achieveing that basic feel you described. I'll have to start looking again on a way to make lightsabers as good as photoshop's someday, but I think there was something missing in gimp's layers to allow me to do that. >_<

Hey, that's a good idea! I found this Debian wallpaper somewhere on the net, and tried to Ubuntu-ise it. I changed the color to match the brown Human theme, then added a Ubuntu logo. Let me know what you think... Here is a 1280x1024 version.

[Edit - i changed the link to a 800x600 version to save a little bandwidth. I also noticed the color looks a little strange when viewed on my Mac desktop. Looks fine on my Ubuntu notebook however.]

The filter "Script-Fu -> Decoration -> Old Photo" (I translated from swedish, so may be different words in english version) is very useful for making pics look like old sepia photos. Could be worth trying it for this purpose, perhaps in combination with color tools.
