Does anyone here use purely abiword/gnumeric over write and calc? ignore the lack of a presentation component, do you think that gnome office is more useful especially in writing publication and general document use over OOo?

Does anyone face any problem with gnome office along the course?

The reason for the post is that I had made a great draft of a publication in OOo (Ignore using latex) but apparently the conversion to MS office isn't that good especially the embedded pictures are out of place and the captions are missing. OOo 2.2 even crashes alot of times compared to its previous version 2.1. So I m thinking of switching to abiword/gnumeric which have the features that I think I will need at least for my study.

Any comment?

I am dissatisfied too with last version of OpenOffice.

I experienced misplaced or missing figures when converting to doc or pdf.

Moreover I use formulas a lot. With older versions, when you decided to insert a formula, the pane opened and was ready to type in. With the version (2.0.4) coming with Edgy, the formula pane opens but you must click on it _twice_ before you can write.
Not really terrible but annoying.

I will give Abiword a try.

I have been very happy with gnumeric as a spreadsheet. Honestly haven't used Calc much.

I've stuck w/ OO writer so far for the compatibility with Bibus. Everything works well so far, but I haven't done any serious collaborative works with Word users yet. A recent upgrade from 512MB to 1.25GB RAM made a noticable improvement in performance

As far as formula editing goes, I prefer to write the formula and then highlight it and insert > object > formula. Then I never have to edit it inside that stupid popup box that just makes life difficult.
