That's a pretty arbitrary question. Beauty is subjective, and jsut about any distro will let you tweak and customize to your heart's content.

i'd say dreamlinux or elive.

I think it is sort of a shallow topic, especially when you factor in the fact anyone can customize Gnome, KDE or any of the other desktop environments to look and behave the way you want, instead of the way the developer has chosen via a default setup.
This is not some M$crosoft piece of crap...it is Linux...think and do for yourself.

I'd say elive too.

hmmmm....ok.....
So i'll go with Ubuntu. With beryl.
Or do you guys prefer compiz? I've heard some things about the 'XGL desktop"
What do you guys think of these three?
thanks

You can't include beryl unless it is there by default, I mean if you talk about modifying the default look that much, any distro can be made to look like that without about equal work (or less).
My vote is for Fedora. The DNA theme is awesome, probably the best OOTB theme I have ever seen. OpenSUSE is a close second, its less fun but more professional.

Any text-based distro.

Most of them look the same, its really a choice between Gnome or KDE.
KDE looks better, but I prefer Gnome.

Mint looks very nice

Either Fedora or openSuSe/SLED. Mandriva doesn't look bad at all either.
These are all from the gnome desktop though.

As far as polish goes, both KDE & GNOME it would have to go to openSuSE...

Seriously imho the MS Windows' GUI is still with an idea ahead. Blame me :lolflag:

I'll give Elive another vote.
We all know you can throw a zillion hours at KDE/Gnome to make it look good but it doesn't have the sexy out the box pazazz of Elive!

Vista is nice looking, but has awful usability and I am convinced XP was designed by fisher-price...

To define I'm talkin' about the base design/idea of the interface, not shine-effects or something similar. It's easy-to-use compared to some popular Linux desktop environments. For example some extras to work we must read and use this black devil-like thing called console :) On the other hand this maybe converts us to more strict users... not bad. But personally I won't refuse some more Windows-like GUI on my distro. Except then the real problem will become a new interfaces-war

Without hesitation and with no other distro even coming close Elive with e17.

Anyone can doody up their distro.
But if we are talking about out-of-the-box sexiness, Linux Mint wins.
Its a distro based on Ubuntu.

I knew you were going to say that. :D
Personally, I think the best looking command line distro would be the Gentoo x86 minimal install CD. I haven't installed it yet, but the splash or whatever they use in the installer CD looks cool. 8)

The only distro that include Enlightenment17 as default is elive (if you don't count YDL, which I don't), so my vote goes to elive, even though I prefer a more recent build and the theme Detour.

You have a lot of different answers here. I think that any distribution can look as good as any other main things are:
1 - for proper eye candy always have your video card drivers installed
2 - get Beryl or Compiz or Metisse
3 - use GNOME
4 - get gdesklets and conky and similar

I will go with a customized Ubuntu Gnome\beryl.
I didnt really like E17, the menu fonts etc are too hard to see at high resolutions.
E17 looks good and work ok.
Its a matter of choice which is what Linux is all about.

I'm excited to see how well Jupiter Linux comes out http://getjupiter.com/
The distro is from the hosts of the Linux Action Show, its goal is to have all the cool eye candy in it.

Customizing or not, gnome and kde are two very different enviroments.
I don't see what the last sentence is good for. All it does is make you look like a fanboy.

Since any Linux distros can be configured to look like any other Linux distros, it's best to answer this question as "which linux distro looks best out of the box."

Linux Mint for me, every flavor of it just looks stunning OOTB. My second would have to be fedora. I dont know why but for some reason every time I see it the colors just seem to be sharper...almost hypnotic lol.

LinuxMint has the best appearance, hands down. My second choice would be Sidux.

There is no best looking linux distro as each person has a different opinion as to what looks good and any so called "ugly distro" can look good depending on how you change it's look.

OzOS (http://cafelinux.org/OzOs/) which is based on Xubuntu and comes with e17 by default but you can load a Minimalistic Oz-Gnome-Desktop (http://cafelinux.org/forum/index.php/topic,1578.0.html), if desired.

That's the point of the thread, to find people's opinions.

With enough customization, any of them can look like the others. However, out of the box I must say that OpenSUSE looks pretty good.
