Alien Arena 2007 (Sound issues, please help!)

I've installed Alien Arena 2007 and the game is very fun. However, the sound on the startup menu and when there is alot going on in game sounds very distorted and much louder than the rest of the game. I've tried changing some of the sound settings in-game to see if they made a difference and they don't.

When I use weapons such as the flamethrower or rocket-launcher, the noise is so unbearable it makes the game unplayable.

My sound card is a C-Media PCI CMI8738-MC6.

Please respond! I have checked on the official website but there is nothing of use.

same error here will try chaning between OSS and Alsa first

If you have a sound issue, try to rename crx in crx.old and crx.sdl in crx. The sdl driver works sometimes when the standard oss driver doesn’t.
