Today at the mall, I saw Neverwinter Nights being sold for a special price. I bought it, knowing it could run on Linux natively.
But now, I have no idea what to do next. There are installers on liflg.org and http://icculus.org/~ravage/nwn/ (http://icculus.org/%7Eravage/nwn/) , but I don't know which files to use, and there is the http://nwn.bioware.com/downloads/linuxclient.html page, but I can't download 1 GB of files, which is why I bought the CDs. And I don't really have Windows to copy my data. Any help here?
My second question is that I see NWN mentioned sometimes as an RPG, sometimes as an MMORPG. Which one of these is it, and what type of view does it use?(Diablo-style,WOW-style,etc...)
Thanks a lot in advance,

You will want to see this thread (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=113259) about installation. It doesn't require windows, but you will need an internet connection to download the latest patch.
NWN is diablo-style, and has both single and massively multiplayer components.

Thanks! I will check the thread out!
EDIT: The link is for the Platinum edition :( Or do they install similarly?

Well, which version do you have?

The ordinary, plain version. My game cover looks exactly like http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/7/7b/B00005NZWS.02.LZZZZZZZ-1-.jpg
Surely someone tried to install this version on Linux :P

For the original version, use the installer at http://liflg.org/?catid=6&gameid=65 and then the patch as well.
Neverwinter Nights isn't exactly Diablo, but it's not exactly an MMORPG either.
It is in essence the closest you can get to a Pen and Paper role-playing game on the computer (at least that I've seen so far)
You CAN play it as an MMORPG since there are persistent worlds out there that players have created (all free) and modules galore! Though I think a lot of them require the expansions, since they contain extra content.
Diablo is more of a hack n' slash game, Neverwinter Nights actually requires a bit more strategy, it's a lot like the old gold-boxed Advanced Dungeons and Dragons games for Dos. The combat is partially real-time. (Basically it determines by your character's speed, etc on how many attacks you get as opposed to your enemy, but it gives the illusion of real-time combat by letting you move freely.)
I love the game, though it's one of those I get passionate about for a while, then let it sit forever on my drive, then I pick it up again and play it for long periods, then drop it again for long periods :D
It does have a large mod community though, so the game itself will last forever. I highly suggest getting the expansion packs and the Community expansion pack as well.

Thanks a lot leech! I will report with my results after I finish.
BTW, by patch you mean the language files at the same page?

UPDATE: I got the installer from the Loki site, I ran it. It setup well(it asked for the 3 CDs). After I finished, I try to run the game, I get:
./nwn: 123: ./nwmain: not found
Any Idea what might be causing this?

Yeah, by patch I mean the 'language' stuff. It upgrades Neverwinter Nights to 1.68 instead of 1.29 (whole lot of bug fixes and new content)
http://liflg-tracker.death-row.org/torrents/nwn_1.68-english.update.run.torrent
That's a torrent link for the English version of the 1.68 update.
After running that, the nwmain should be there and work properly. If not, post again and we'll work from there.

Hey leech, did what you said, and Neverwinter Nights is working like a charm! (Too bad, the CD Key of the game I bought was already stolen before I bought it, so no Online gaming for me :( ) Thanks a lot for your help Leech, I wish I could play online with you :P

I think you should contact with developer of NWN, they should do something about the CD-KEY. It's what mainly keeps you away from pirating, isn't it?

You mean I should contact BioWare? And you think they would REALLY do something about it? I will tell you my other software pirated story;
I bought EverQuest 2 like 6 months ago, and I also found that the key with it was used before, hence I paid money for nothing. I tried a lot of times contacting Sony, the developer of EverQuest, but all they said to me, that I was just trying to get a free key to the game even though I attached pictures of the game box and the CDs. Thank goodness the shop accepted it back ( I paid for the game x3 the usual price). And guess what?
Both games I bought were repackaged by the same company( Damn you GameValley)
I WILL try contacting them(even though there ain't much hope), but to which e-mail address do I send? I looked around the site a bit, and I'm guessing it's accounts@bioware.com , but I still feel there's another e-mail for NWN account specific issues. I hope BioWare are kind people :P

Yeah, I know there are problems with that but if you don't try, they'll never learn ;) and I think that THE BEST solution is to phone them but it really depends how much you care about this cd-key. I guess that I might acutally lose hope too ;) but I'm from Poland and these matters are really hard to solve here.
