You can try it and it will probably work, but there's certainly no guarantee that it will perform quickly. I long for the day when we have a free software replacement for Photoshop -- the GIMP just ain't it.

I run Photoshop CS2 on a Windows XP Pro VM via VM Workstation 5.5.x on Ubuntu. I have 2 gigs of memory assigned to the XP VM and it is a bit more sluggish than running on a stand alone XP machine. I am no power user of Phosotshop, but I haven't found any limitations.

some guy over here told me he runs the same with 512mb of memory, well it's sounded hoaxical but i thought to give it a try
I just don't know where from and what to get for vmware so i can start it with XP. this is the question.

I did and it does not.
I need answer for my question nor Linux based solutions for amateur image editing or reviews of professionals with 10 years of experience who use Gimp.
When Gimp will do what Photoshop does, as simple as it and as fast as it i will be first to move, instead of upgrading software and using on semi working Windows.

Try Virtualbox instead of VMware - it's much easier to setup.

I used to run PS CS2 on Win 2000 in vmware and it ran ok. I have only 512MB RAM. What I didn't like is the file access to files outside of vmware.
These days I've settled for Photoshop 7 on wine. Runs fine and quick with few minor quirks (some of the toolbars don't minimize so you have to close the program when you are finished)

Do you even get hardware acceleration in photoshop? especially with things like new 3d features i suppose it's a must have.
