Just to save people the bandwidth - it's only worth downloading if you

a) Plan to develop a KDE4 app/ port an app to KDE4; or
b) Plan to contribute to the KDE core libraries; or
c) Are morbidly curious :P

For a) and b), you should really be building from SVN, anyway.

Last time I looked, KDE4 had no "desktop" (just a blank, icon-less void where the wallpaper would normally go) as it is being phased out for KDE4, and the kicker may or may not be anywhere near functional (it, too, is being ditched for KDE4). Things like KDE Games, Dolphin and (more often than not) Konqueror should work reasonably well, though.

not a big fan of kde anyway, I'll wait until it will be released in autumn with some distro :)

I've been playing with KDE4 KMahjongg and it does look nice in all its SVG glory. I don't like the game though :D

It's really too early to judge. The first alpha (I repeat, *alpha*) will be out in two weeks or so... there's still a lot of work to be done.

I'm curious -

Is Plasma still planned for KDE4? I've grabbed the ISO and tried it in a VM, but it looks exactly like KDE 3.x to me. I thought that it would have an entirely new interface, as it is a major version number.

Aaron Seigo seems confident that it will make it for KDE 4.0.0, although (like the rest of KDE4) it will be nowhere near it's full potential at that time. Based on its current progress, I really can't say I share his confidence particularly, but he's a smart guy and usually good at Getting Stuff Done, so we'll have to see.
