Gutsy should have a facility to let users easily find, download, and install good gnome themes, cursor themes, desktop backgrounds, login screens, etc.

Lots of persons decide they like an operating system when they can easily find new artwork to customize the interface. There's lots of great stuff like this freely available (for example, http://art.gnome.org/ and http://www.gnome-look.org/ ). We should go the last mile and make it really easy for new users to find and install stuff like that.

I believe this will make Linux/Ubuntu advocacy a little easier with certain target audiences, and would take very little effort to implement since the content is already available.

and would take very little effort to implement since the content is already available.

Even an interface to art.gnome.org is available (package name gnome-art), but it's no longer maintained, and depends on Ruby, so wouldn't be considered for default inclusion.

Many programs have a sort of "Get more themes / skins online" button or link in their preferences, which is a simple link to the relevant theme site; maybe the feasibility of introducing such a button that points to art.gnome.org and/or gnome-look.org into gnome-theme-manager can be discussed.

I think this would be a great idea.
I love skinning my desktop, but in Linux it's tended to be difficult because the packaging of themes varies, making installation not nearly as easy as it could be.
