Warzone 2100 already exists at getdeb: http://www.getdeb.net/comment.php?rel_id=322
Would be nice to get it mirrored in the universe repos or something though.

most of those games are .run or .package so there is really no need to create a .deb
it installs just fine.
on the other hand if you put here some games that are only available in "source" or "rpm" ....

Well, I have noticed alot more ubuntu .deb files appears, so sooner or later it won't be a problem. Especially newer project have .deb packages.

debs are better than run and package files because they are easier to manage and uninstall. I know some games installed from run files come with uninstall scripts but very few that I have seen. debs usually add a game launcher to your menu too to save you some time from doing it. It's nice to be able to see and manage all your software installed from Synaptic. It will never be overwritten if the package manager knows it's there.

i would have voted for this if it was in the list. i saw it featured somewhere and it looked interesting. i just wasted a lot of time trying to compile it. didn't work out for me. i'd post my specific problem but i'm at work and i don't feel like giving it another go any time soon.

I don't understand... why aren't fantastic games like Warzone 2100 already in the repositories? I had no *idea* that we had such polished games available under the GPL.

There is a thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2683 that addresses that, and O'Reilly books "Ubuntu Hacks" has a how to also.

gotta realize alot of these games aren't GPL which is why they probably aren't within the repos.

Urban Terror is actually super easy to install in 4.1, just extract zip into home directory and make launcheable
Theres also install scripts on this forum and the urban terror forum to streamline the process

Ironically it's in one of the Kubuntu repos.
Would be nice to see it in the Ubuntu repos too.
