as a voice teacher, singer and sometimes composer and as the son of a painter, it has not escaped me that sometimes an artist does their best work under the restrictions placed on them by others (no one would have ever heard of richard strauss had his wife not nagged the crap out of him, for example. also, scott walker was clearly at his worst when allowed to be self indulgent. 'tilt'? bleeeeeeeeech!!1). though i find gnome to be the most restrictive of all the DE/wm's, i find myself enthusiastically challenged to come up with something that works well with its restrictions (and also its great variety within those restrictions). other times, though, i just think "meh! forken install openbox".

Hi,

What do you mean by restrictions? Lack of features? If so, Xfce is your GUI--although I augment it with GNOME tools. Xfce doesn't have all the glitz and glamour of environments like KDE or even GNOME but that's the point. Because it doesn't have an overwhelming amount of features and tweaks, it has a low footprint allowing me to run several instances of X server without problems.

Unfortunately, when it comes to the creativity aspect, no GUI is right for me. I'm more logical than creative, and my choice of default GUI is more practical than anything else.
